CAMINO – COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO CYBER ROADMAP COORDINATION AND DEVELOPMENT (Duration: April 2014 – March 2016)
The major goal of the project was to provide a realistic roadmap for improving resilience against cybercrime and cyberterrorism. The consortium used a holistic approach, analysing functions and capabilities addressing technical and human issues which are inter-related with legal and ethical aspects. The consortium followed so called CAMINO THOR approach where cybersecurity is perceived comprehensively in 4 dimensions: Technical, Human, Organisational, and Regulatory. In each of the dimensions, some items have been proposed for the roadmap. In parallel with looking at the human and technical aspects, the project was focused on strong involvement of various different groups and operators such as LEAs, CERTS, personal users, governments, industry and research and commercial organisations.

SECTOR – SECURE EUROPEAN COMMON INFORMATION SPACE FOR THE INTEROPERABILITY OF FIRST RESPONDERS AND POLICE AUTHORITIES (Duration: July 2014 – June 2017)
SECTOR project aimed at improving crisis management schemes for emergency responses when multiple actors are involved. The key objective was to establish Common Information Space (CIS) for supporting cross-border multi-agency (first responders and Police authorities) collaborative crisis management processes. The CIS allows for sharing information and resources among agencies securely, while respecting their local and legal requirements and procedures.
DESTRIERO – A DECISION SUPPORT TOOL FOR RECONSTRUCTION AND RECOVERY AND FOR THE INTEROPERABILITY OF INTERNATIONAL RELIEF UNITS IN CASE OF NATURAL DISASTERS AND CBRN CONTAMINATION RISKS (Duration: September 2013 – August 2016)
The main objective of DESTRIERO project was to develop a next generation post-crisis needs assessment tool. The designed tool offers common operational picture to all parties involved in reconstruction and recovery actions through collecting and presenting collected data in interoperable formats. The satellite and aerial photos, as well as in-field data from mobile devices may be integrated, analysed and presented in a unified form, which, in result, is used for supporting continuous damage and contamination assessment. The collected data feeds advanced multi-criteria decision analysis tool, which determines priorities in the crisis reconstruction phase and strategic joint decision-making process.
FASTPASS – A HARMONIZED, MODULAR REFERENCE SYSTEM FOR ALL EUROPEAN AUTOMATIC BORDER CROSSING POINTS (Duration: January 2013 – December 2016)
FastPass project was to enhance the workflow and functionalities of Automated Border Control (ABC) gates for different border control points (land, sea and air). The major goal was to design such a border control process that would facilitate fast and convenient border crossing for legitimate travellers, while maintaining security at the highest possible level. Moreover, the project addressed related privacy, social, ethical and legal issues. State-of-the-art biometric technologies have been used for strengthening the security level of ABC process and minimizing the risk of spoofing attempts, illegal immigration and other threats.
HIT-GATE – HETEROGENEOUS INTEROPERABLE TRANSPORTABLE GATEWAY FOR FIRST-RESPONDERS (Duration: March 2012 – September 2014)
Public Safety (PS) bodies and First Responders (FR) often employ heterogeneous communication technologies, e.g. analogue Professional Mobile Radio (PMR), TETRA, WiMAX, DMR, etc. As of this constraint, FR units from different bodies cannot interconnect at the site of the accident when a complex crisis calls for cooperative actions (e.g. fire accident on a vessel inside the port ). The same constraint applies in case of cross-border crisis e.g. forest mega-fires. The aim of HIT-GATE was to deliver a generic gateway (h/w & s/w) that allows seamless communications and service interoperability across all heterogeneous communication networks currently used by FRs around Europe.
PPDR-TC – PUBLIC PROTECTION AND DISASTER RELIEF – TRANSFORMATION CENTER (Duration: April 2013 – September 2015)
The goal of PPDR-TC was to specify an interoperable, secure and resilient voice and data communications architecture, tailored specifically for the future needs of the PPDR community. It provided the foundation for the evolution of mission critical communications. PPDR-TC addressed both mission critical and non-mission critical situations in an integrated and uniform way to enable ubiquitous secure communications over dedicated and commercial networks. PPDR-TC investigated and proposed optimal scenarios to merge commercial broadband infrastructure with current PPDR systems. The key outcome of the study was a roadmap of validated methods that are novel and satisfy future PPDR requirements. Recommendations for standardization bodies and responsible governmental organizations were also derived.
IPATCH – Intelligent Piracy Avoidance using Threat detection and Countermeasure Heuristics (Duration: April 2014 – June 2017)
The project has been funded within the framework of the European 7th Framework Programme, as a response to the call SEC-2013.2.4-2: Non-military protection measures for merchant shipping against piracy. It is envisioned that the project will achieve three major goals. First of all, the project was to perform an in-depth analysis of the legal, ethical, economic and societal implications of existing counter piracy measures. Furthermore, the effort has been put to produce well-founded recommendations to the industry in the form of a manual, extending and complementing the Best Management Practices document and to support the use and further development of countermeasures. The major result of the project is, however, the development of an on-board automated surveillance and decision support system providing early detection and classification of piracy threats and supporting the captain and crew in selecting the most appropriate countermeasures against a given piracy threat.

MobilePass – A secure, modular and distributed mobile border control solution for European land border crossing points (Duration: May 2014 – December 2016)
MobilePass focused on research and development of technologically advanced mobile equipment for land border crossing points. The system allows border control authorities to check European, visa-holding and frequent third country travelers in a comfortable, fast and secure way. The mobile, portable and handheld solution incorporates new technologies needed in mobile scenarios and embeds them in the actual border crossing workflow to speed up control procedures especially for train and car border control points.
Promoting both security and mobility within the EU border control was a major challenge. Travellers request a minimum delay and a convenient, non-intrusive border crossing, while border guards must fulfill their obligation to secure the EU border against illegal immigration, terrorisms, crime and other threats.
